Jan Karpíšek is a Czech contemporary painter, born in 1981 in Jihlava. He grew up in the South Bohemian town of Třeboň. Karpíšek studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno University of Technology (1999-2005, Atelier of Painting led by Professor Martin Mainer that time). He lives in Brno (South Moravia, Czech Republic), since 2005. Karpíšek's work is characterized by topics such as, the time, the perception, the mind, the nature, and earlier also the erotic. He is deeply concerned with meditation and a number of his paintings are just records of the meditation experience and its consequences; however, his paintings show no formal unity. His artistic style sometimes evokes naivism or the grotesque, and at other times is similar to a gestic abstraction. Karpíšek is also concerned with action painting, natural pigments and "weather paintings". As a matter of fact, the topic of his bachelor and master work was time. He won the Prize of Dean 2003 for his bachelor work; his large-format paintings that might be reminiscent of works by Gerhard Richter and Barnett Newman. His work "Mars" was bought by the National Gallery in Prague in 2004 and presented in IBCA 2005. Karpíšek participated on Václav Cílek's books Orfeus (The book of underground rivers) in 2009 and Tři svíce pro budoucnost in 2012. He is a member of the art group Svitava. Karpíšek practices Zazen as taught by Master Dōgen and Mike Eido Luetchford. He is an enthusiastic beekeeper and permaculture gardener. Your questions or any feedback is kindly hoped and appreciated.

Investing in Fine Art

Art lovers can invest in the art based on the "degree of how well-established" is the selected artist. If you decide to purchase work from the emerging author you are generally governed by criteria such as education ("degree of how well-established" are the artist's teachers, schools etc.) any awards and scholarships, results and learning achievements, quality of the exhibitions (not only the number but also the "degree of how well-established" is the gallery and curatorial project), the collections holding (especially the important museums and collectors), the current marketability (past auctions & sales results) etc. But beyond these statistical and secondary (non-visual) criteria you may also be able to look at the painting itself. Dou you like it? Does it resonate with you? If so this is a great bonus to simply business. The state where the buyer resonates with the work of art is a deep inner process that eventually can vent to the intimate spiritual relationship.
